If you
have a high-end film recorder you may need a Sola constant voltage
power conditioner to keep your images from electrical jolts and
glitches.
Previously
we recommended
the Sola constant voltage power conditioner for using with high-end
digital cameras (such as Dicomed, Better Light, PhaseOne, and
comparable
top-of-the-line units). We were recently informed that high-end
film recorders indicate the need for constant power also.
This
is over and above what an uninterruptable power supply (UPS) offers.
Do not confuse UPS units and the industrial strength Sola equipment.
You need either both or just the Sola unit. The UPS unit by itself
is not enough for delicate electrical equipment in major photo studios
and prepress production houses.
We
welcome input from people who visit this page. Film recorders are
not normally an item of equipment we report on, but in the digital
era, with "no film," a film recorder is the best way to
turn your digital image into traditional film.

If
you do any large format digital photography, especially with a Better
Light, Jobo, or PhaseOne
scan back, you may well need a Sola Heavy-Duty power conditioner
as well. Otherwise, a laser printer, xerox machine or any electrical
motor can cause fluctuations in the current that will ruin
your digital photography unless your lights are protected by
a power conditioner.
