A
special laser printer paper to enhance your color images
Potlatch
Mountie Matte paper has a substantial feel and reproduces color
beautifully on the Lexmark , Hewlett-Packard, Panasonic,
QMS, Tally, or Tektronix-Xerox color laser printers.
Why
use books written by other people when you are an expert in the
field you are teaching about? Advances in digital printing now allow
each and any professor to create their own handouts. We all have
thousands of color slides. Just get a hold of the new Nikon
dedicated 35mm
color scanner and you are all set to reproduce your own material
for your students. Don't forget that a Macintosh generates thumbnail
pictures automatically; it is a serious mistake to struggle with
photographic images on a PC clone.
We
printed this with a Lexmark Optra SC1275n color laser.
But you can also get wonderful results with a QMS Magicolor 2,
or an Alps
Electric dye sub/dry ink printer. The newer generation of color
laser printers offers 1200 dpi which is much better. Unfortunately
Lexmark and Hewlett-Packard offer only simulated dpi, so
they are not as good for printing photographs. You need a Tally,
QMS,
or Panasonic color laser printer if you need to print lots of
photographs.
Some
test labs use all kinds of scientific instruments. We prefer using
the human eye.
If
it looks good, we will let you know. If it looks bad, it will
be self-evident and we will report it.
Mountie
Matte is made by Potlatch and distributed by Mac Papers.
We like the substantial weight and the surface feel. This is a
selection we recommend for fine art prints.
For
super color printing, in-house, on demand, try a Xerox
DocuColor, Minolta, or Savin color copier/printer with EFI Fiery
RIP. The Panasonic color laser printer also has a color controller
built in (as do some Epson laser printers available in Germany,
with color management RIP from BEST).

to buy color laser printers in the USA: the better color laser
printers can be purchased from QmaxDigital, e-mail john@qmaxdigital.com
Mountie
Matte has a cream shade that enhances the color images. We much
prefer the heavier stock, it adds substance to any publication,
manual, or workbook.
Once
we recognized the qualities of Mountie Matte, we checked out what
else Potlatch had to offer and found Potlatch McCoy, which we will
be testing soon.
In
the meantime, Potlatch papers are available from Mac Papers.
