Polaroid
tries to catch up with digital photography with a scanner for 120
or 220 film.
Trouble
is that Polaroid has no digital technology of its own. Kodak
and other companies hold the patents on the CCD sensors.
Nikon has outstanding scanners; Microtek
offers cheap scanners. Polaroid is caught in the middle.
If
you can get SilverFast,
the Polaroid scanners are excellent if you are a hobby photographer
or if photography is a retirement business or second business.
We
first saw the new Polaroid scanners at Photokina, but still
have not had time to get the actual equipment to evaluate it. We
are still working primarily on prepress flatbed scanners but will
catch up with desktop film scanners later this year.
