What
scanner should I buy? With scanner prices dropping it is tempting
to buy low-bid. But cheap scanners are a mistake.
A
Linotype-Hell scanner is preferred by a sophisticated user. Thus
Heidelberg provides extra features that prepress professionals expect
from this Germanic European tradition of excellence. Here is a pass-through
terminator and a SCSI 1 to SCSI 2 adapter.
None
of the other scanners in our test center came with such extras that
make the difference.

Here
is another demonstration of Germanic thoroughness: lots of instruction
manuals.
Even
more information is on the CD-ROM
(present but in another photograph).
When
I had questions, I got immediate technical assistance in two languages,
German and English (I was in Germany). In the USA you will get pure
American English.
