What scanner should I buy? With scanner prices dropping it is tempting to buy low-bid. But cheap scanners are a mistake.

Linotype-Hell terminator.

A Linotype-Hell scanner is preferred by a sophisticated user. Thus Heidelberg provides extra features that prepress professionals expect from this Germanic European tradition of excellence. Here is a pass-through terminator and a SCSI 1 to SCSI 2 adapter.

None of the other scanners in our test center came with such extras that make the difference.

Here is another demonstration of Germanic thoroughness: lots of instruction manuals.

Even more information is on the CD-ROM (present but in another photograph).

When I had questions, I got immediate technical assistance in two languages, German and English (I was in Germany). In the USA you will get pure American English.

What is the best way to store your scanned images?
CD-R or CD-RW ? Now you can have both in a single unit, 8x CD-R, 4x CD-RW, 24x read.
DVD-RAM, 5.2 GB per disk (2.6 GB per side), disks under $60, DVD-RAM burner/readers for under $800. Why is this a good storage solution and where can you buy these?
